How Do Orthodontists Create a Treatment Plan for Each Patient?

Creating a treatment plan is the first step in beginning your orthodontic journey toward a perfect smile, but how do orthodontists make a unique one for each patient? At Griffin & Errera Orthodontics, we take our time with every patient on their first visit to learn about their needs and how our team can accommodate them. Learn more about how treatment plans are crafted, your treatment options with us, and more!

Exploring the Details of Your Treatment Plan

When Dr. Griffin and Dr. Errera have your unique treatment plan ready, they can give you their expert opinion on beginning your journey toward a beautiful smile. They will point out areas to which they will pay specific attention during your care, corrections you can expect, diagnose your orthodontic issues and more. Our orthodontists can show you photos and videos of similar cases to better understand the change you will see in your own teeth.

During this time, we will thoroughly go over topics that will guide your treatment plan, such as if treatment is needed immediately, what your options are, how long it will take, a full breakdown of the costs, as well as your insurance, financing, and payment plan options. Our team will never rush an appointment, especially your first one, so we take our time to answer every one of your questions! But how exactly do we put all of this information together? Let us tell you!

How We Craft a Unique Treatment Plan

Digital Photographs and Impressions

We begin by taking digital photographs of your teeth and the inside of your mouth. At the end of your time with us, you will get to see the amazing before and after photos of how much your teeth have shifted.

Our team then moves on to take a digital impression of your teeth with the help of our iTero element scanner. At Griffin & Errera Orthodontics, we stay up-to-date on the latest technology so our patients can benefit from modern techniques. This incredible scanner can create an extremely accurate 3D model of your gums and where your teeth are established.

Its technology allows us to create precise care plans specialized to each patient’s case, allowing for more effective and efficient treatment times. The iTero element scanner also assists in creating comfortably fitted appliances as we can learn each tooth’s exact position and size.

Capturing X-Rays

The next step in creating your treatment plan is capturing x-rays as necessary. If you have any recent x-rays your dentist took in the past six months, we encourage you to bring those images in.

They allow us to see your erupted and unerupted teeth past the surface. X-rays also inform us about the relationship between your facial features and jaw. This form of imaging uses minimal radiation to take and help us determine the best placement for your appliance. If you need one taken, we will be happy to do so.

Physical Assessment

Dr. Griffin and Dr. Errera will conduct a brief oral exam of your teeth and point out what signs of issues we can immediately notice. They will also ask questions about your oral health concerns, if you feel any pain, and what bothers you. This will help us better guide your treatment plan and learn more about your teeth.

Dental and Medical History

The final crucial step is reviewing your dental and medical history. This gives us a complete picture of how your body has reacted to past operations or procedures, allergies, and more. Each of these can affect the treatment our orthodontists recommend you move forward with.

Your Care Options

LightForce Clear Braces

The future of teeth straightening, LightForce clear braces is an appliance that combines strength with aesthetics. This fully customized treatment uses fully translucent white brackets that are created with the help of a 3D printer.

We craft each bracket to fit your teeth perfectly and ensure your treatment plan is as effective and efficient as possible. These braces fit more comfortably than traditional options and are efficient, allowing for fewer check-in appointments.

Metal Braces

A tried-and-true option, modern metal braces are the most popular treatment choice, thanks to their long history of success. Now smaller and more discreet than ever, this appliance can help you reach your smile goals, no matter how complex the dental issue. They are made up of brackets, wires, elastics, and other components to place slight pressure on your teeth for the entirety of your treatment plan to shift them into the perfect position.

Invisalign

A virtually invisible appliance option, Invisalign allows patients to work on their smile without anyone noticing. They utilize a series of custom-molded, clear plastic trays that are switched out every two weeks as each set slowly shifts your teeth into the proper position. We can predict precisely how your teeth will shift and make minute changes to your trays before you use them so they end up where you want them to.
